Jul 19, 2017 Most general-purpose external hard drives are 2.5', which is what you are probably used to. For a proper hard drive to play games with, you'll definitely want a 7200rpm one, which (as far as I know) only 3.5' drives are capable of. These are a bit heavier and bulkier, hence why I mentioned the extra box. Could I run video games off of a USB 3.0 External Hard Drive? Secondly, an external hard drive can be 5400RPM or 7200RPM, neither of which will require 300MB+ of bandwidth. I do it often with and without Steam. Comment has been collapsed.
Steam USB Stick/HDD

I've been a steam user on and off since Steam was launched, I've recently rekindled my love affair with Steam to re-play FF-VII and all I can think about when I came into work this morning is how I wish I could just bring a portable drive to play my games at work cause I'm allowed to. I've some reading and I see that you can you can back-up and restore games, but isn't basically the same as installing the game on the new computer?
Storing Steam Games On External Hard Drive
Is it possible to just copy Steam and games to portable drive and re-configure it's launch path to point to the drive?
Dunn159:
I've just been looking on my computer and i have used 104GB worth of memory on games downloaded from steam and my laptop now has 4GB remaining.
So I was wondering this, would it be possible to put the games I've downloaded from Steam onto an external hard drive? I was wondering if I could do this then simply plug it in when I want to play the games? Daniel silva audiobook download torrent. Or would I have to resort to deleting games to free up memory?
Could anyone post a comment letting me know how to do this if its possible at all? It would be much appreciated! Thanks Guys x
I don't think you can split the Steam folder in two with some games in one and some games on the other..
Steam Download Game To External Hard Drive Computer
You'd have to move the entirety of your games library on the external drive, which is less than ideal unless it's really fast and not connected by USB.
What you could do instead is what I do: Use the Steam backup function to put the games you don't play right now on your external drive and delete them from your library to save space. When you want to play one, restore it from the backup. While not instantaneous, it's wayyyyy faster than downloading it again.
